Eric Conway: An evening of Opera at Morgan State University - Friday, April 7, 2017 at 8PM, Murphy Fine Arts Center, Baltimore, Maryland

Dr. Eric Conway writes:

Hello everyone,

2017 is a great year at Morgan State University - celebrating one hundred and fifty years!

On this coming Friday, April 7, 2017 at 8PM, the Fine and Performing Arts department will present an Evening of Operatic Arias all sung by Morgan State University Choir alumni.  Over the years the choir has had so very many incredible voices - not just ensemble voices, but unique solo voices.  I am still amazed at the success our singers have had over the years, particularly in the field of opera.  We have had several choir members sing at some of the biggest opera houses in the world - including the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.

We believed that a unique event for Morgan would be to invite back some of our Morgan State University Choir alumni, who have gone on to have success in opera, to sing a favorite aria of their choosing for their Morgan family.  Friday’s concert is that event!

This concert will be held at the Murphy Fine Arts Center’s Gilliam Concert Hall on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 8PM.  The concert is free!.  The following former choir members will sing:  Crystal Freeman, Tavonne Hasty, Janice Jackson, Joseph Johnson, Jessica Lynn, Kenneithia Mitchell, Candace Potts, Anika Sampson-Anderson, and Kevin Short.

Earlier in the day, acclaimed baritone, Kevin Short will give a Vocal Master Class for our Music majors, from 3:30-5:30 in our Recital Hall - also free to the public.

Even if you are not the biggest opera fan, you will want to come out just to hear these superb voices. I believe that you will enjoy the evening!
