Adams Featured at Art Song Festival

The African American Art Song Alliance is holding its convention at the University of California in Irvine on February 9-12, 2017.

On Friday 2/10/2017 at 9:00 a.m. the H. Leslie Adams/Robert Owens Award is presented to Composers: Dorothy Rudd Moore and Shaun Okpebholo.  Adams is on hand to personally make comments regarding the importance of art song composition and to share his own motivation for working in this genre.

The same day at 6:00 p.m. an H. Leslie Adams Master Class is conducted by the composer on four of his art songs: "Midas, Poor Midas," "Love Response," "Prayer" and "Lullaby Eternal." Performers for this class are from the UCI voice department.  Adams' "Love Rejoices" is featured on another program during the convention.

Among the notable attendees at this convention are Vocalists George Shirley and Willis Patterson, and Composers Julia Perry, Adolphus Hailstork and George Walker, the last represented by his son Gregory Walker.
