Eric Conway: Morgan State University Christmas Concert Excerpts on YouTube

Eric Conway writes:

Hello all,

On the second Sunday in December, the eleventh, the Morgan State University Choir performed our annual Christmas Concert at the Murphy Fine Arts Center on campus.  Every year, we have seen our audience continually grow and grow. We believed that there were over fifteen hundred persons in attendance this year.  We always perform our semester-ending concerts with an orchestra which makes it even more special.

The first half featured Handel’s Messiah. It had been several years since we programmed the Handel.  I always like to program Messiah because 1) the piece is such a part of the fabric of the season and 2) it is an excellent opportunity to showcase the many great soloists on the choir.  The instrumentation was true to the original performances - with harpsichord and all!

The second half featured elaborate arrangements of carols for orchestra and chorus, various Christmas-themed music for the larger choir, and beautiful, intricate arrangements of a cappella music for the Morgan Singers.  We closed out the concert with several Christmas Gospel selections!

Although we had a great turn-out, many still were not able to attend.  Please see attached a PDF of the program and links to Youtube links of the Concert. Enjoy!

Eric
