The Houston Symphony celebrates Black History Month with a special concert featuring a wide representation of African-American contributions to music, from the late-Romantic era, through jazz, modern art songs and gospel. Four choruses from the greater Houston community will join the orchestra: the CityWide Grassroots Chorus, Houston Baptist University's Schola Cantorum and University Singers and members of the Brentwood Baptist Church Chorale. Our soloist for the evening will be baritone Reginald Smith Jr., winner of the 2015 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Praised for his “ample and thrillingly dramatic” voice, Smith possesses “one of the most exciting baritone sounds to come along in years...” (Opera News)
