Bio
Kameron
Johnson is a 14 year-old pianist who is a Summa Cum Laude 8th grade
student at Detroit Country Day Middle School. Currently, Kameron
receives private lessons from jazz pianist Robert Buddy Budson. For the
past three years, Kameron has been a member of the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra Civic Youth Ensembles jazz program working with professional
musicians such as pianist Tad Weed, drummer Sean Dobbins, and Trumpeter
Rayse Biggs. Kameron is also a member of the U of M Michigan Youth
Ensembles Jazz Ensemble under the direction of trombonist Vincent
Chandler.
Kameron has participated in various youth programs, which
include the Arts League of Michigan Jazz Ensembles Program where he
received ensemble instruction under the direction of trumpeter Marcus
Belgrave and the MSU Community Music School Jazz Camp under the
direction of Rodney Whittaker.
Kameron is the pianist for the talented
professional youth jazz group, KDJ Trio, which includes his 11 year-old
brother, percussionist Donavon Johnson and 15 year-old bassist
Jonathon Muir-Cotton. The trio was formed in September 2010 and has
performed for numerous local organizations, corporations and jazz clubs
including the world famous Baker’s Keyboard Lounge.
Kameron’s trio had
the pleasure of performing at the University of Michigan
non-competitive 2013 Jazz Festival and received adjudication from
pianist Geri Allen and saxophonist Andrew Bishop. The group’s
performance earned them an Outstanding Musicianship Award. Kameron’s
professional aspirations are to become a general surgeon and music
composer.
