Classical/Flamenco Guitarist Guy West Releases Debut CD: 'Solo Guitar'

August 11, 2011 (Philadelphia, PA)
Solo Guitar, the first solo classical guitar recording by Guy West, is an amalgam of works ranging from the English Renaissance to contemporary flamenco. Spanning several countries and as many moods, the pieces performed on this recording speak to the versatility and beauty of the guitar.

The recording begins with John Dowland’s “Lachrimae Pavan”, originally composed for the lute. This is followed by the Suite BWV 1006a in E major by J. S. Bach, and Variations based on a theme of G. F. Handel by Mauro Giuliani. Also included is Leo Brouwer’s 2 movement work- “Elogio de la Danza”. The final piece is an original flamenco composition, “Sol en Algeciras (Solea)” by Guy West.

Originally from New Orleans, Guy West has been performing classical guitar for over fifteen years. He has placed first in two guitar competitions and has been a guest performer on live radio and television in the New Orleans metro area. In addition to giving solo recitals, Guy has also performed, recorded and toured with various classical and world fusion ensembles.
