Regina Harris Baiocchi: 'Thanks for keeping Hale Smith's name in the public's consciousness.'

On June 29, 2011 AfriClassical posted: “Hale Smith, Innovative Composer of Classical Music & Jazz, Was Born June 29, 1925.” For many years toward the end of his life, composer and Professor Hale Smith of Freeport, New York was both friend and mentor to the Chicago composer and poet Regina Harris Baiocchi. The two would talk regularly for hours, about music and life, on a dedicated phone line. Regina sends this response to our post:

“Dear Bill:
Thanks for keeping Hale Smith's name in the public's consciousness. Hale is happy to know that he is remembered fondly by so many colleagues, proteges, and friends. What better way to commemorate the 85th anniversary of Hale's birth! All the best...
Peace,
Regina
