'Art Of The Guitar,' with Benjamin Verdery, 'A Tribute to Leo Brouwer,' 92nd Street Y, April 23, 2011, 8 PM

The official time for the "Tribute to Leo Brouwer" is 8 PM, but Benjamin Verdery, who directs the guitar series of the 92nd Street Y, will present a pre-concert lecture at 7 PM:

“Tribute to Leo Brouwer (Saturday) Benjamin Verdery, who directs the 92nd Street Y’s ambitious guitar series, presides over a tribute to Mr. Brouwer, the Cuban guitarist-composer. The program includes a dozen of Mr. Brouwer’s influential (and difficult) guitar works, among them 'La Espiral Eternal,' 'Paisaje Cubano con Lluvia,' 'Canticum,' 'El Decameron Negro' and 'Hika — In Memoriam Toru Takemitsu.' The performers, besides Mr. Verdery, include Odair Assad, the Canadian Guitar Quartet, the Eden Stell Guitar Duo, Raphaella Smits, René Izquierdo and Ricardo Cobo.
